THIS WEEKS INTEL

Last month one of my posts did 735,700 views on TikTok.

The post before it did 919.

Same account. Same me. Same 30 days. Most people would call that luck. But it isn't.

In one month I had two posts go viral on two different platforms. A reel on Instagram at 75,610 views. A post on TikTok at 735,700. Different accounts, different platforms, different topics.

So I did what I always do. I pulled them apart to see what they had in common. They shared five things. Every time. I call it the 5S Framework, and here it is with the proof.

1. Surfable

The TikTok post was about the Levi's and FIFA World Cup story, something the whole marketing world was already talking about. The reel tapped a piece of house music history the scene already talks about. No cold topics. Both jumped onto momentum that was already there.

What I learned: don't invent the conversation. Find the one that is already moving and bring your angle to it.

2. Story Driven

Facts tell. Stories sell.

The next post was a reel, it wasn't a fact about a club night. It was one specific moment. Everyone handed an acid tab at the door, told by Frankie Knuckles. The Levi's post wasn't a note about branding. It was a story with tension, the best marketing they ever did was being told to disappear.

What I learned: don't tell them what you do, tell them the one moment it happened. Specific beats general every time.

3. Strong Hook

The first 1.7 seconds decide everything.

Both first lines opened a gap. A contradiction or a scene that pulls you into the next part. If line one doesn't stop the scroll, nothing after it exists.

What I learned: your first line is super important. I use my tool First Bar to write all my hooks.

4. Shareable

This was the engine behind both.

The reel got 1,088 shares. The TikTok post got 495. Both off a base of almost nothing. People shared them because sharing made them look like they knew something. Status, insider knowledge, emotion. Those are the triggers.

Likes feed your ego. Shares carry you to people that haven't heard of you before.

What I learned: before I post, I ask one question. Does sharing this make someone look good? If not, it gets rewritten.

5. Saveable

The reel pulled 508 saves.

A save is the strongest signal there is. It tells the algorithm the content has long-term value, worth coming back to. Checklists, frameworks, ranked lists. Give people a reason to return.

What I learned: build the reason to save into the post itself. A promise, a list, something they will want again next week.

✉️ Welcome to the BPM Newsletter Business, Performance, Marketing insights for DJs and creative entrepreneurs THIS WEEKS INTEL Everyone's using ChatGPT for their artwork, and it shows... Everyone's making their artwork in ChatGPT now, and you can tell. Line the flyers up and it looks like one person made all of them. I've spent 37 years in the DJing world and I've moved from just playing to helping DJs build a brand, so I look at flyers differently these days. Here's what's actually going on,...

✉️ Welcome to the BPM Newsletter Business, Performance, Marketing insights for DJs and creative entrepreneurs THIS WEEKS INTEL Instagram just published what it wants from a caption. Most DJ accounts are ignoring all of it. Most DJs write the caption last. You upload the set, tag the venue, add a quick line on top, and share. Instagram has just published its own guidance on captions, and it treats them as central to how a post performs. In its words, the caption tells the search system what...

✉️ Welcome to the BPM Newsletter Business, Performance, Marketing insights for DJs and creative entrepreneurs THIS WEEKS INTEL For a lot of DJs, summer ending feels like the season winding down. The gigs thin out, the festival posts stop, and everyone goes a bit quiet. The booking calendar however says the opposite. The back half of the year is one of the busiest stretches there is, and a big chunk of it lands midweek, which frees up your weekends for other club gigs. Corporate party season...
