Most captions fail in the first two sentences because they start with a summary instead of a hook.

THIS WEEKS INTEL

Instagram just published what it wants from a caption. Most DJ accounts are ignoring all of it.

Most DJs write the caption last. You upload the set, tag the venue, add a quick line on top, and share.

Instagram has just published its own guidance on captions, and it treats them as central to how a post performs. In its words, the caption tells the search system what your content is about.

I write captions for DJ accounts every week through the agency, so here's how that guidance actually lands on a DJ page.

You get two lines before the cut.
Only the first two lines show before the "more" button. Everything below that is invisible until someone taps.
What it means for you: put the reason to keep reading in line one.

Instagram now reads your caption to work out what you are.
Its search uses your caption text to understand and place the post. A vague caption gives it nothing to file you under.
What it means for you: name the sound and the setting in plain words. Deep house, Soulful House, Sunday session, something like that.

Saves come from the caption too.
Instagram says the posts that get saved and shared are the ones that tell a story or hand over something useful. A list of track names does neither.

What it means for you: put a line about the night, or a tip they can actually use, above the tracklist.

End with an instruction.
Instagram says to tell people what to do next, whether that's saving the post or tapping the link in your bio. Most DJ captions end on a full stop and ask for nothing.
What it means for you: pick one call to action per post and ask for it directly.

Carousels can carry a caption per slide now.
Since May, each image in a carousel can have its own description. A photo dump from the gig can guide people through the night image by image.
What it means for you: use those extra captions to keep people moving through the whole set of photos.

Knowing this and doing it every week are different things. Captions slip because there's nowhere to write them and keep them. They get typed into the Instagram box at the last second and forgotten.

The Content Pipeline inside DJOS is built for exactly that. Plan the post, write the caption properly, and save the ones that landed so you're not starting from a blank box every time. It syncs across your devices now, so a caption you draft on the laptop is on your phone when you're at the club.

DJOS is the ultimate swiss army knife tool for DJs who take their careers seriously

DJOS is the operating system for DJs who are serious about getting more organised, more visible and getting more gigs.

The gigs thin out, the festival posts stop, and everyone goes a bit quiet. The booking calendar however says the opposite. The back half of the year is one of the busiest stretches there is, and a big chunk of it lands midweek, which frees up your weekends for other club gigs. Corporate party season...

✉️ Welcome to the BPM Newsletter Business, Performance, Marketing insights for DJs and creative entrepreneurs THIS WEEKS INTEL Most DJs run their career from memory. The gigs, the rates, the content plan, the follow-ups, all of it held in your head, or the back of a fag packet. Then you miss a booking or forget what you quoted someone last time. I’ve create a tool to help with all this it’s called DJOS and it just got 4 major updates. It's off Notion and on its own site now. Your own login,...

✉️ Welcome to the BPM Newsletter Business, Performance, Marketing insights for DJs and creative entrepreneurs THIS WEEKS INTEL Open Instagram right now and ask why you are really on it. The honest answer is entertainment. The feed hands you whatever holds your attention, and catching up with mates barely comes into it. That is a different app to the one we all learned to post on. Five years ago the deal was simple. Post a flyer with a few hashtags and your followers saw it. That deal is gone....
