THIS WEEKS INTEL

Most DJs think their problem is reach.

It's not. It's clarity. And Instagram just made that impossible to ignore.

Check out what changed this month: Instagram rolled its "Your Algorithm" control out to the main feed. It was already on Reels and Explore now it's everywhere. Your followers can open Settings → Content Preferences, see the topics Instagram thinks they care about, and add the ones they want more of or remove the ones they don't.

The important bit to note is they can remove topics with just one tap.

So the question is no longer just "will the algorithm show my post?" It's "is my account so obviously about one thing that nobody bothers to filter me out?"

And buried in this update is the shift that decides whether you get seen at all in 2026. I'll come to it in a second.

First, picture the average DJ's grid. A gig clip. A gym selfie. A meme. A track promo. A sunset. A throwback. To you it's a life. To Instagram and now to your followers' filters it's noise. The algorithm can't confidently file you under one topic, so it hesitates to push you. And the moment a follower trims their feed, an account it can't categorise is the easiest thing to cut.

Here's the part you need to pay attention to, this update looks like a threat, but it's actually a filter. It buries the scattered and rewards the clear. If your account is unmistakably about one thing soulful house, your sound, your rooms, your bookings you won't get filtered out. You get filed correctly and served to exactly the people who want you.

This is the whole game, and it's the thing I say on repeat: DJs don't have a talent problem. They have a distribution problem. Instagram just turned the volume up on it. The talented-but-scattered will get quieter this year. The clear will compound.

So before you post another thing, the honest question is: if a stranger landed on your profile, could they say what you're about in five seconds?

If you're not 100% sure that's exactly what the BrandOS Diagnostic is built to surface. It takes about two minutes and tells you where your brand is blurry before the algorithm decides for you.

Get clear. Get filed. Get booked. See you next Thursday.

Paul

P.S. The DJs who win in 2026 won't be the ones posting more. They'll be the ones posting clearer. One topic, owned completely.

✉️ Welcome to the BPM Newsletter Business, Performance, Marketing insights for DJs and creative entrepreneurs DJOS OFFICIAL LAUNCH I've been DJing 37 years. I've been running a social media agency for the last 5 and a half years. For most of those 37 years I did what nearly every DJ does. Played some great gigs then just hoped the phone would ring. I had no system in place whatsoever. The agency years changed how I saw everything. I started auditing DJ brands properly, and the same thing came...

✉️ Welcome to the BPM Newsletter Business, Performance, Marketing insights for DJs and creative entrepreneurs THIS WEEKS INTEL Morning. Every DJ I know is all in on Reels on Instagram. That's how strangers find you, so it makes sense. But Metricool which is the social media scheduling tool I use in my business, looked at 24 million Instagram posts this year and carousels came out ahead of Reels on nearly every engagement metric. Carousels are also the format not everyone bothers with. PAUL'S...

✉️ Welcome to the BPM Newsletter Business, Performance, Marketing insights for DJs and creative entrepreneurs THIS WEEKS INTEL I've been watching the same thing happen for years. There's a DJ with real skill. Great record knowledge, years in the game, can genuinely play. And they're stood in a half-empty room. Then there's someone down the road, nowhere near the same level, selling the place out. Most people look at that and call it unfair. I don't. Because when you actually look at it, it...
